Native to the northern coasts of Scotland, Mertensia maritima is a perennial with soft, blue-grey foliage. The leaves are in fact succulent and have a particular oyster taste. Excellent to be eaten in salads, on bread or on crudités.

The plant produces a stem approaching 50 centimeters in maximum length.

Its flowers, comparing during summer, are purple and often visited by the bees and other pollinators.
