Botanical name: Luffa cylindrica
Of Asian origins, Luffa cylindrica is a herbaceous vine. If equipped with support, it can reach a height of several meters. The leaves can reach the size of a dinner plate. Enchanting is also the edible yellow bloom.
In Asia the young fruits rich in vitamin content are eaten like Zucchini.
Luffa cylindrica is cultivated mainly for the sponge that is derived from its fruits. Once the fully ripe fruit in fact dehydrate gradually, leaving a spongy body which constitutes part fibrous.
