Botanical name: Physalis peruviana
Physalis peruviana is a shrub native to South America.
The fruit of this variety, the so-called "alchechengio", presents a particular aroma, like tomatoes and with a slight hint of pineapple and vanilla. It is also rich in vitamins, such as vitamin C and provitamin A, iron, phosphorus and protein.
The alchechengio can be eaten fresh, when it reaches the typical yellow-orange, or as worked, such as in jams.
Suggest that you handle the potted plant, so that it can be put away in the winter.
